Alex & Jennifer

When did you guys get engaged?

On 3rd September 2005. Just before noon.

How did Alex propose?

The "lies"

Jenn went up to visit Alex in Brisbane for the weekend. Alex told Jenn that he had made plans for them to go to "Wet n Wild" on Saturday.

At 0730 on the Saturday morning, Alex and Jenn left the Amberley RAAF base. Before they left, Alex told Jenn that they were actually going to Sea World.

The plane

The drive was long and at 0845, Alex announced that he had to give "them" a call to tell them they were late. Why would Sea World care if Alex and Jenn were late? After the phone call, Alex confessed that they were not really going to SeaWorld, but they were actually going to catch a Sea Plane at the marina near Sea World.  Jenn was very excited!

The pilot flew them (and another couple) around Gold Coast. The pilot then suggested that they make an "unprecedented" stop at South Stradbroke Island .

The island

After getting off, Jenn and Alex wandered around taking photos. The beach was beautiful and very quiet, the sea was a clear greenish blue. The pilot announced that the other couple decided to have their picnic there and he went to help them set up. Alex told Jenn the picnic was too expensive and he couldn't afford it. After a while, the pilot came back and claimed that "someone" had just cancelled out on their picnic so Alex and Jenn could stay at South Stradbroke Island and have the picnic for free.

Alex and Jenn set up the picnic area and Alex's RAAF tent. It was just like the Amazing Race!  After everything was set up and the food was laid out, Alex asked Jenn to sit on the chair for a "photo".

The proposal

Alex took out a Piglet with a treasure chest and, according to Jenn, threw it at her. Jenn opened the treasure chest and found a plastic ring!  Alex then read out a poem he had made up himself …and asked Jenn to marry him...

The response

Jenn was shocked.

She said, "You're kidding right?"

Alex replied, "No".

Jenn asked again "Are you sure?"

Alex said, "Yes...so?"

Jenn said, "OF COURSE!"

And yes, Jenn did cry...

What did you guys do to celebrate afterwards?

Alex had booked a the Garden Suite for Jenn to stay at the Stamford, Brisbane that night. Jenn was greeted with a bunch of pink roses. Alex had chosen this room because it was facing the Brisbane River and the "River Fire" was on that night.

They got there in time to watch the Roulettes do their fly by. They ate home-made avocado sushi and had Red Rooster for dinner. Then they watched the fireworks from Jenn's room. Finally, to cap off the night, a F-111 (from Alex's base) flew past and did a "dump and burn".

Tell us about the ring!

Alex proposed with a special silver coated copper toy ring.

Back in 1999, when  Alex was still chasing Jenn, Alex was a Alex To fan (for those of you who don't know, Alex To was a "not very successful Hong Kong RnB singer"). As a result of this, Alex had purchased the "Alex To Lover 99" album. (yes - we think that was suppose to be a pun).  This CD came with two free plastic rings that join together to make "99" in a heart shape. Alex gave half of the ring to Jenn on 31/12/99.

After they started going out, Jenn wore her half of the ring around her neck. Sadly, Jenn lost the ring at Central Station back in 2000. She was devastated.

Leading up to the proposal, Alex had tried to find another one of Jenn's half of the ring to propose with but it was in vain. So he ended up proposing with HIS half of the ring. Alex said it meant that everything that was his is now Jenn's, and everything they now share everything. (aaaaaaawwww)

Don't worry...Jenn has since gotten a "real" ring..
